Prayer should be performed before God in the Kaaba during the night in Mecca. It is commonplace to stand, lean and kneel before God, while reciting from the Quran.

Prayer is an essential pillar of Islamic faith. It is a way for people to remember and to thank God for all the blessings that he has given you. Healthy, a comfortable home with family members, friends eating, and a comfy life.

For many Muslims prayer is considered a form of nourishment. Similar to that, the body needs to be fed several times a day to be healthy and strong. Muslims make use of prayer to receive spiritual nourishment.

Before they pray, Muslims have to physically purify with water. They clean their hands and arms as well as their face and extremities. This is a way of washing all your sins. You cleanse your mouth if it was something you shouldn't havesaid, wash your eyes if you saw something you shouldn't have Your feet are cleaned if you've entered a room you shouldn't , and the list goes on.

Prayers are made up of 'cycles' or rakaat. Morning prayers, by example are the shortest having only two rakaat. the prayers for sunset are made from three rakaat while the noon, afternoon and evening prayers are made up of four rakaat. Each cycle of prayer comprises of specific movements and recitations.

Prayer is one among the regular activities in a Muslim's life and one of the most essential components. Even though we only fast for one month of the year and give Zakah once in the year, Hajj is only required once a lifetime, but it is a ritual which must be practiced 5 times a day.

It can bring discipline and organization to the day and also is the best type to meditate in our busy lives that we live.

Salah

Salah which means 'prayer' or'supplication'. It's also referred to as Namaz in non-Arab Muslim. Salah represents one of five principals of Islam that constitute the fundamental practices and beliefs of the religion. Five pillars:

  • Reflection of belief (Shahada). God is not a God apart from Allah, and Messenger Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is the messenger of God.

  • Prayer (Salah)

  • Charity (Zakat)

  • Fasting (Sawm)

  • Pilgrimage (Haj)

Salah is obligatory for adults Muslims and the prayer times will be determined by the motion of the Sun and is performed 5 each day:

  • Fajr: Dawn before sunrise

  • Dhuhr the word "midday" means after the Sun surpasses its highest peak

  • Asr: The late part of the afternoon

  • Maghrib At sunset, just before sunset.

  • Isha: Between sunset until midnight

The prayer in masjid

Muslims are able to pray wherever. However, many Muslims attend prayer in a massadid. A masjid is a site to devotion for Muslims. Prayer in a group helps Muslims realise that all humanity is one and all are identical in the eyes of God.

Jumuah

Apart from the five daily prayers, there is one obligatory prayer on Friday (Jumuah) worship. The prayer is usually offered in the congregation, with a sermon on Fridays. It is in lieu on the morning prayer.

Adhan A call to prayer

The call of prayer to the public is known as Adhan. The Adhan is announced from the Masjid by a muezzin whom the masjid has designated as its prayer caller. When the prayer is called, the muezzin recites the Takbir (glorification to God) "Allahu akbar" and it translates to "Allah is amazing".

The complete call to prayer is as follows:

Allahu Akbar (God is great)

Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah (I affirm that there isn't any God apart from the God of the One God)

Ashadu anna Muhammadar Rasool Allah (I bear witness that Muhammad is the messenger of God)

Hayya' ala-s-Salah (Hurry into the prayers or get up for prayer)

Hayya"Ala-l-Falah" (Hurry to success, or rise for salvation)

Assalatu khairum-minan-naum (Prayer is better than sleeping. This is only said for prayers in the morning.)

Allahu Akbar (God is Great)

La Ilaha, illallah (There can be no God other than the One God)

Why is it important to the Adhan?

The Adhan is offered five times a day to invite Muslims to perform the obligatory prayers. It is not uncommon to hear the call to pray at public gatherings in countries with an extensive Muslim population. The Adhan is normally spoken from the minaret of Masjids. They usually deliver it toward that of the Holy Kaaba in Makkah.
